Are you sick of all of these Pastor’s who drive nice cars, Bentley’s, Rolls Royce’, Cadillacs…? Want to drive in luxury and style like them? As a pastor I can give you the secret…10 Steps to ballin like a Pastor…ready…here we go.
- If you don’t have a job…get one. Pastoring a church is not just a call it’s a job, complete with a paycheck. (No we don’t take what we want from the offering, that’s very traceable and highly illegal!)
- Change your 5 day work week to 6. Most Pastors work Tuesday – Sunday.
- Don’t limit yourself to a 40 hour work week…be on call, ALL day, EVERY day.
- Spend 3-10 hours studying per speaking event. So if you have to give speeches twice a week take 6-20 hours preparing to do that. Pastors don’t stand in the pulpit and Freestyle!
- Create, write, & teach curriculums around your area of knowledge. Pastors create, prepare and teach several classes at their churches.
- Be prepared to give of your life for the benefit of others…and to travel for the following: Hospital visits, Jail visits, house blessings, baby dedications, birthday’s, baby showers, weddings, funerals, and all other manner of emergency’s, from sickness to domestic violence. And Don’t complain when you’re needed for someone else’s special day and that day falls on a holiday…like weddings on Valentine’s day, blessing houses on your children’s birthdays…etc. (That’s your job!)
- Think constantly about how you can fulfill the goal of your organization…For instance the goal of my organization is to establish God’s kingdom in the lives of people in this city and to bring believers to higher levels of spiritual maturity…I think hours a day, everyday, about how best to do this, including my day off, though I’m trying not to do that.
- Spend at least 10 hours a week pouring into the lives of people around you, at least 5 hours a week praying for the organization and the people around you… in addition to the 6-20 hours that you spend preparing to teach/speak, in addition to the time you spend creating and teaching classes, in addition to the time you spend praying, counseling, visiting, helping, marrying, burying, and handling the emergencies of those around you. Bear in mind that the larger your organization becomes the more all of this work multiplies…(Yes the bigger the church the more the work…) Most of all find time to make sure your own family is taken care of because if your family falls a part, YOUR JOB IS GONE!
- Obey God…read his word, pray and DO WHATEVER HE SAYS…no compromise, no maybe later…do it!
- Lastly don’t ever let anyone tell you what you should buy, or should drive with your pay check after you have worked to earn it! Jesus said that the worker is worth his wage (Luke 10:7)
You too can be a ballin like a pastor, just like me and my 2006 Nissan…bought used :).
Other scriptural references on the subject:
1 Timothy 5:17-18
17 The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, “Do not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain,” and “The worker deserves his wages.”
Galatians 6:6
6 Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.
